Customer Highlight: TESVOLT

Read about TESVOLT and HELUKABEL; a story where high-quality cables and energy storage systems bring reliable, renewable energy to industries across the globe.

Each individual battery module is connected to another with cables, and the storage system to the power inverter.
"I'm convinced that the success of our products is directly tied to this cooperation. [...] HELUKABEL has cables with the exact specifications we needed in their portfolio. That, with their transparent presentation and selection, immediately won us over.”
Simon Schandert, Co-Founder and CTO of TESVOLT

Who is TESVOLT?

With over 5,000 applications of its systems worldwide, the German-founded company has made a name for itself. Established in 2014, TESVOLT is a global leader in energy storage systems. Whether for commercial or industrial applications, it promises safe, reliable, and efficient technology.

TESVOLT develops and produces battery storage systems used across an array of industries. E.g., independent businesses, agriculture, retail, commercial, grid providers, and industrial organisations.

TESVOLT’s vision is to store renewable energy for use when it's needed. Such as wind, solar, and hydropower. So, it developed proprietary battery storage systems that have gained multiple accolades.

A Message from TESSVOLT's Co-Founder

We spoke with TESVOLT’s Co-Founder and CTO, Simon Schandert to tell us more.

“The range of applications for our products is vast. We have already established energy stores for over 5,000 projects around the globe. From fish farms in Norway to holiday resorts in the Caribbean.”

To date, TESVOLT has developed the Active Battery Optimizer (ABO) and Dynamix Battery Optimizer (DBO). Both optimally regulate and monitor the charging and discharging of battery cells. “A high-performance battery management system maintains maximum efficiency between components. With the ABO and DBO, we can prolong the life spans of our systems while reducing energy consumption.”

Why Energy Storage is Important

In 2021, the European Commission established energy targets to balance the energy crisis. The need for this stems from the consumption of energy not being met by the generation of energy.

So, the European Commission wants to introduce “Flexibility Solutions” that allow excess energy to be stored. This is where TESVOLT comes in; its storage solutions allow businesses and industries to meet energy targets.

In addition, we’re in a world where energy supply is becoming increasingly expensive. From industries and commercial applications to in-the-home environments. Accessing affordable energy is becoming more difficult. Battery storage systems take excess energy from renewable sources for later use. This is because, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower don’t consistently produce or match demand. Utilising a battery energy storage system means energy can be accessed when needed.

How Energy Storage Works

Battery energy storage systems store electrical energy by converting it into chemical energy. I.e., atoms and molecules. They use lithium-ion batteries that interconnect, store, and release energy. These batteries are a common choice due to their high energy density, efficiency, and lifecycle.

The seamless transmission of energy (and system data) is essential in every application. Each battery is connected via cables; as is the storage system to the power inverter. This component converts a battery’s direct current into a network-compatible alternating current.

What is Energy Storage Capacity

Energy storage capacity is the maximum amount of energy a single system can store and release. It's measured in units of watt-hours (Wh), kilowatt-hours (kWh), megawatt-hours (MWh), or gigawatt-hours (GWh).

TESVOLT’s portfolio contains diverse, modularly-built storage models. Its systems range in energy storage capacity from 10 kWh to double-digit megawatt hours. So, there is a solution for every application.

Determining this capacity relies on the system’s efficiency, power, autonomy requirements, and deep discharging ability. In addition, it’s not possible to 100% discharge an energy storage system. Therefore, the “useful energy storage capacity” indicates how much energy can be taken from the battery storage system.

Where Are Energy Storage Houses Kept?

Energy storage is kept everywhere it’s needed. From industrial settings to individual homes. For your specific application, your additional storage system will be in your space.

Currently, the world’s largest battery energy storage system is Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility in California. It’s the first 300-megawatt lithium-ion battery facility. It stores 4,500 battery racks and became operational in January of 2021. Since then, its sole off-taker has been Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

That said, TESVOLT now owns Europe’s first-ever gigafactory. Based in Wittenberg, Germany, it produces the highest volume of stationary battery energy storage systems for the world to use.

Energy Storage and Conversion with TESVOLT

TESVOLT’s battery energy storage systems are compatible with photovoltaic, wind, hydropower, and thermal plants. In addition, its designs can be used to optimise conventional energy sources such as diesel generators.

In practice, TESVOLT’s solutions store energy generated throughout the day for use during the night. Users can then optimise efficiency, increase private consumption, minimise peak loads, and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

To wire its systems, TESVOLT relies on HELUKABEL cables. That’s because our cables adhere to all the necessary standards and international approvals needed across the board. With our cables, TESVOLT can ensure reliable and efficient data transmission.

HELUKABEL and TESVOLT: ENergy, Optimally Utilised

TESVOLT values quality above all. Because of this, it relies on the extensive catalogue of high-calibre products HELUKABEL offers.

“HELUKABEL has cables with the exact specifications we needed in their portfolio. That, with their transparent presentation and selection, immediately won us over." [...] With their delivery capabilities and service, we’ve been satisfied HELUKABEL customers for nearly 10 years!”, says Simon Schandert.

One of the core products we supply to TESVOLT is our HELUDATA TRONIC 2464/300. It’s a flexible PVC data cable used in machine and plant construction. Not only is its sheathing resistant to many environmental conditions, but it’s flexible enough to be used in cramped spaces. Plus, the cable was developed based on AWG sizing to achieve UL and CSA approvals. Because of this, it’s suitable for American and other global markets.

For TESVOLT, it means growth doesn’t require multiple cable types. This is especially important when the company must adhere to strict safety requirements. For example, flame retardancy by both European and American standards (which our cable is).
